Description
Cyclosporin is an immunosuppressant medication used to control the body’s immune system. It is commonly prescribed after organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplantation to prevent the body from rejecting the transplanted organ. Cyclosporin works by blocking the development and activity of certain immune cells that would normally attack the transplanted tissue.
This medicine is also used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases, where the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own cells. By suppressing the immune response, cyclosporin helps reduce inflammation and tissue damage.
Cyclosporin may be prescribed for conditions such as endogenous uveitis (including Behçet’s uveitis), severe atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis, severe rheumatoid arthritis, and nephrotic syndrome, a kidney disorder that causes excessive protein loss in urine.
