Description
Xarelto contains rivaroxaban, an oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) used to prevent the formation of harmful blood clots. It is prescribed for adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem) to reduce the risk of stroke and clots in other blood vessels.
Rivaroxaban works by blocking a specific clotting factor (Factor Xa) in the blood, which helps prevent clot formation and improves blood flow. Regular use as prescribed significantly lowers the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation.
